PSG or Arsenal: Who will rule Europe?
By Mekonnen Almaw
Tonight, at 7:00 PM, the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League final will take place between teams from France and England.
Last year’s winner, PSG, wants to win the title for the second year in a row. They will face the English Premier League champions, Arsenal.
Arsenal, the club from North London, is playing in its first-ever final. They hope to bring the trophy home to the Emirates Stadium, but they know it will be a very difficult match against the French club.
The Teams' Performance PSG has a very strong attack. They have scored 44 goals so far this season, making them the top-scoring team in the tournament. On the other hand, they have let in 22 goals, but they have kept a "clean sheet" (no goals allowed) in 5 games.
Arsenal has scored 29 goals and conceded only 6. This makes them the team with the strongest defense in the tournament. In fact, the "Gunners" have kept a clean sheet in 9 games and have not lost a single match in this competition.
Key Players and Injuries PSG has a scary attacking trio: Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Désiré Doué. They will be a big test for Arsenal's strong defense tonight.
Good news for PSG: Key players Ousmane Dembélé and Achraf Hakimi were injured but are now back in training and are included in the squad to face Arsenal. For Arsenal, defender Jurriën Timber was also injured but is fit to play tonight.
Broadcast and Fans The world is waiting for this match, which will be filmed by 43 cameras from different angles. This is a record for the tournament—more than double the usual 20 cameras used in league matches.
Many fans from both clubs are expected to be at the stadium to cheer for their teams. The wealthy French club, PSG, has helped many of its fans travel to Budapest for free. About 20,000 PSG fans are expected, and the French Embassy in Hungary announced yesterday that 17,000 of them already have their tickets.
Bonuses and History PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi has already arrived in Hungary. He has promised a big bonus for the players: if PSG beats Arsenal and wins the trophy, every player will receive a €1 million reward. Marquinhos, Dembélé, Hakimi, and Vitinha have reportedly negotiated this bonus with the club. PSG did this last year and went on to win the trophy.
There has been no news of such bonuses for the Arsenal players.
If Arsenal wins tonight, they will become only the 4th English club to win the Champions League in the same year they won the Premier League. Historically, only three English clubs have achieved this "double." In total, an English club has achieved this feat five times: Liverpool (1983/84), Manchester United (1999 and 2008), Manchester City (2023)
If PSG wins tonight, they will match a record held by Real Madrid: winning the Champions League two years in a row. Real Madrid is the only club to have done this in the modern era (winning three times in a row from 2016–2018). In the past, they even won it five times in a row between 1956 and 1960.
Final Details The match between Arsenal and PSG will take place at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, tonight at 7:00 PM.
