Iran strikes two military bases in Israel

Since last April, Israel and Iran have exchanged direct missile and air strikes for the first time on Sunday and Monday.

In a statement, Iran's military high command reported hitting two military bases, while also announcing a temporary suspension of its ongoing attacks.

However, the joint command of the Iranian military issued a statement warning that if Israel continues its attacks in southern Lebanon, it will face even more severe consequences.

Conversely, Israel's Channel 12 TV, citing a senior official, hinted that Israel might pause its strikes on Iran following an urgent request from U.S. President Donald Trump.

The current dangerous escalation was triggered after Israel launched a surprise air strike without warning on the southern suburbs of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, yesterday.

Condemning the action, Iran fired numerous ballistic missiles at Israeli military installations in retaliation, with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announcing that they had struck two military bases within Israel.

In response, Israel immediately activated its air defense systems, and its warplanes carried out a series of air strikes targeting strategic infrastructure in western and central Iranian provinces.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that they had struck a petrochemical plant in Mahshahr that produces components for ballistic missiles, as well as mobile missile launcher trucks.

The conflict, not limited to the two nations, has drawn in regional partners. Hezbollah, operating in Lebanon, fired three missiles at Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, while the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen also announced they had launched missile attacks on Israel.

Furthermore, the Houthi movement declared that any commercial shipping vessels linked to Israel would once again be targets in the Red Sea, effectively declaring a maritime blockade.

Following the escalation, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on his social media account, ordering Israel and Iran to stop firing at each other immediately.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the relationship between President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—who were allies at the beginning of the conflict—has shown signs of strain.

Netanyahu ignored Trump's advice against initiating attacks by ordering strikes on Beirut on Sunday and on Iran on Monday, which angered Trump. Trump, in turn, asserted his authority over Netanyahu, declaring, "I am the one who decides all decisions."
