The Ministry of Education has announced the development and pilot testing of an artificial intelligence application designed to assist teachers by generating lesson plans, creating standardized exam questions and assignments, and self-organizing teaching strategies.
Named the "Agentic Teacher Assistant," this application significantly reduces the daily workload of secondary school teachers and is capable of performing tasks completely autonomously without the need for an internet connection.
Unlike systems that rely on central servers or cloud technology, this application is a localized technological product that can be easily installed and run directly on a computer.
The app is a lightweight model built by training it on a complete dataset of all textbooks from grade 9 to 12 in accordance with the new curriculum. It has been designed to thoroughly analyze and understand these books, and it is distinguished by its ability to run easily on any laptop or desktop computer without requiring high-end hardware specifications.
The Ministry stated that this AI application can perform various functions, the most important of which are preparing lesson plans, generating standardized exam questions and assignments, and organizing teaching methodologies.
This is expected to save teachers the valuable time usually spent on routine bureaucratic tasks, allowing them to dedicate more time to direct interaction with their students, thereby enhancing their teaching efficacy and contributing significantly to ensuring educational quality.
The application is noted to be part of the Ministry of Education's overall digitalization strategy. Its ability to function entirely offline will enable it to provide uninterrupted service to schools in rural and remote areas that lack internet connectivity.
This is expected to significantly bridge the gap in technology utilization and educational quality between urban and rural areas.
By providing students with better support through continuous assessment, the application is expected to improve their performance, and the Ministry indicated that it has already yielded satisfactory results in pilot schools.
Furthermore, it was stated that training is currently being provided to teachers and technology experts drawn from all regions.
According to information from the Ministry of Education, the expansion of this application, which is currently in its pilot phase, is being supported by the "Ethiopia Education Transformation Operation" project, funded by the World Bank.
